Kalpavriksh Delhi has been focussing on protection of standing trees in avenues and in other places (like ridge forest, large parks and river front, and public gardens of all sizes). We monitor activities that are enimical to standing trees (like construction activities of different kinds, flyovers, road widening, metro, footpath designs etc). We have been involved in environment education in schools and colleges on the theme of urban greenery. The idea is to suggest designs of green belts that enhance biodiversity values, especially of birds. We work with other NGOs in this area. The Government has asked us to conduct surveys to find out the survival rate of plantations under various schemes of compensatory and other plantations.
We also help conduct tree census in colonies with the residents. We have filed cases in Delhi High Court on 'concretization around tree trunks'. We are working with the Delhi Government to streamline the tree helpline, to activate the tree authority and to suggest measures that can make the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act more meaningful.
