Maneckji Mehta Rd, Save the trees campaign

June 2008

Here is our new campaign to save the trees on Maneckji Mehta Road and Coyaji Road, under  the jurisdiction of the Pune Cantontment Board...

Hundred and ninety trees beautiful trees and a lovely landscaped garded will be done away with for making roads..

We know some  would be thinking... the PCB will plant more, the transplantation will happen so why the fuss and so on but to us in one sense we should rather salvage what we have with all possible means. Pune 's air and environment is getting deadlier by the day, and one uniqueness of Pune remains the old trees...

We had taken up a signature campaign to save the trees and have sent it to the officials. To read the letter click here

On the occassion of Vatasavitri, Pune Tree Watch along with the Intelligent Woman's club, got together .. here is the message that was sent across

JOIN US IN THIS EXCLUSIVE VATSAVITRI PUJA OF A BANYAN TREE NEAR COUNCIL HALL AT 11 AM ON JUNE 18

June 18 is `Vatasavitri Day' - the day when the Banyan tree is worshipped by married women to pray for their husband's longevity.
Now, it is time to pray for the longevity of Banyan Tree as well!

THE PUNE CANTONMENT BOARD HAS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THE CHOPPING OF 190 TREES WHICH INCLUDES A BANYAN TREE AS WELL,WHICH IS LOCATED NEAR THE COUNCIL HALL

* Vata Savitri, offers us a great chance to send the message to heartless authorities who do not think twice before felling such precious trees.

* This puja will also draw attention of the citizens towards indiscriminate tree felling on that road. It will be an attempt to save these beautiful huge banyan (Wad) trees on that road and around Pune city
